Information For Using Lavender Oil For Thrush Cures

By Wanda Langford

Using lavender oil for thrush and other fungal infections has become increasingly common as knowledge regrading alternative therapies grows. Lavender is a component in many cosmetic and perfume products, but also has medicinal qualities. Dealing with fungal infections is one part of its usefulness, but it also acts as an antiseptic and even a mild sedative.

Candida is the yeast which causes fungal infections in the body, though most people carry the yeast with no ill effects. Candida lives in moist areas of most people's bodies, in places like the mouth or the genitals, but only leads to problems when the body's immune system becomes unable to cope with it, for a number of possible reasons.

Factors such as stress, tiredness and diet can play a part in thrush occurring, as all these things influence the balance of the body's immune system. Smoking and alcohol use can also lead to conditions in which the infection can thrive. Taking antibiotics for any length of time also affects the immune system, and this can also be a cause of thrush.

The condition will often occur in areas such as the mouth or the genitals, but can occur elsewhere on the body. New mothers and babies are vulnerable to the infection, and breastfeeding can result in thrush affecting the nipples of the mother. Soreness can cracking can occur in this area after a fungal infection, which may have been caused by the kind of minor injury a baby's feeding mouth can cause a mother's breasts.

With infants especially vulnerable to the side effects that a conventional remedy might cause, mothers often want to turn to a remedy which will be safe if the infant absorbs it by chance. Other people with the condition may not want to use conventional treatments for other reasons. Lavender oil can be a useful substitute for more pharmacological solutions.

Tests on the oil have shown it contains active anti-fungal and antiseptic agents, and is particularly useful against dermatophytes, pathogenic agents which live on the skin and feed on keratin in nails and hair. It also works well against candida. The oil can be bought in prepared and diluted solutions which can be applied topically to the infected area of the body.

One other way of using lavender oil for thrush treatment is to put ten to fifteen drops of a preparation containing it into a warm bath. While the anti-fungal properties of the oil have been proved, different individuals respond differently to substances. That is why professional advice should always be sought before any kind of treatment is undergone.
