Using herbal treatments for common conditions has become more popular in recent years as knowledge about alternative medicines has increased among the general public. Using herbs like chamomile for thrush is preferred by many to using products which a manufactured from chemicals. Thrush is a fungal infection which is caused by a yeast called candida.

The immune system can become unbalanced though, leading to the yeast thriving much more than it should. Thrush can result, and tends to occur in parts of the body which are often moist, such as the mouth or the genitals. New mothers who are breastfeeding their infants can often fall victim to the condition on their nipples.

The symptoms are usually soreness and itchiness, with the skin in the affected area being inflamed and red. Ridding a sufferer of the condition can be difficult, but there are a number of herbal and natural substances which can complement more conventional treatments. Chamomile is one of those substances.

Chamomile has been used as a complementary medicine by human beings for many thousands of years, and has a number of different qualities which make it a useful part of a home medicine cabinet. Two varieties exist, Roman and German, with the German version tending to be favoured by herbalists in the United States. Both possess the same medicinal qualities though.

The plant is perhaps best known for its reported sedative effects, with many people viewing it as an effective remedy for insomnia. Many use it as an ingredient in a bed time drink, while it has also been accredited with qualities which may help the digestive system. Some believe that it helps treat thrush as it works against an excess of yeast in the body.

Chamomile is also sometimes used as an ingredient in slaves or lotions for the skin. However, as the herb is a member of the ragweed family, people who are probe to allergies to that type of plant should not use it at all. Anyone who is not sure of an allergy, but uses a product and experiences any type of reaction should discontinue using it.

Using chamomile for thrush is often an effective treatment. Herbal and alternative therapies can have different effects on different people though, and safety should always be of prime concern to anyone using any kind of this type of medicine. A professional opinion should always be sought when in any kind of doubt.
