Some Useful Things To Know About Natural Eczema Treatments

By Jasmine Brewster

Eczema is a disease of the skin characterized by patches of dry, itchy skin, often on the arms, face and neck. Much more severe than just dry skin, it does not respond to the treatments usually used to soften and heal dry skin. There are hundreds of items on the market, both prescription and over the counter that may to be varying degrees help ease the symptoms but as with any chemical, regular used can lead to bad side effects. Thankfully there are natural eczema treatments to ease the discomfort and embarrassment of the rash.

One treatment that has shown success in both treating active eczema and preventing the outbreak of new rashes is the consumption of probiotics. Studied mostly in infants and young children, it seems that the addition of probiotics to the diet successfully treated the symptoms of eczema. Probiotics also offer a host of other health benefits to those who eat them.

Most eczema treatments are not meant to be taken internally. Most are to be used directly on the patches themselves. Almost all of them contain hydrocortisone because it is effective at reducing inflammation and the annoying itch that accompanies it. Recently there have been studies conducted on all natural products to see how effective they were at treating the symptoms of eczema.

There is a cream made from the chamomile plant that has been studied and proven effective. When applied to the rash for two weeks, some users noticed significant improvement. In a study where it was compared to hydrocortisone cream, the chamomile cream proved to be more effective for most who tried it.

Another option for sufferers may be witch hazel. Although it has not been as widely tested it has shown some success for users. More testing is needed to determine effective dosage.

A third choice being looked into is licorice root. In testing the results have been positive. Users reported significant relief from the itching, swelling and dryness of their eczema rashes.

It is always important to talk to a doctor before trying any natural eczema treatments. Keep in mind that there are many unscrupulous people out there who would like to make money selling products that will not help the rash at all. Read the labels and know exactly what it is that you are putting on or in your body before you begin this or any treatment program.
