Basics Concerning Micro Laser Peel Cincinnati Residents Should Know

By Virginia Graham

The top skin problems that lead to clinic visits include scars, abnormal pigmentation, wrinkling and rough skin texture. Some of these conditions characterized normal aging but people get worried if they are excessive. There are many treatments that can be used to improve the appearance. One of the commonly used therapies is micro laser peeling. If they want to undergo micro laser peel Cincinnati residents should first try to understand how it works.

The therapy uses laser to achieve its effects. The beam of laser used in this case generates a wavelength that is absorbed preferentially by the epidermal layer. A layer of water found within the epidermal layer is heated and vaporizes. The vapor so formed leads to skin ablation (or peeling). This happens to a very thin layer of skin (between 4 and 50 microns).

Ablation helps with the removal of aged skin cells and provides an opportunity for the generation of newer cells. The result of this process is a more vibrant, youthful skin. If the depth at which therapy is administered is slightly increased, pigment abnormalities such as sun burns get corrected. Treated is typically done on the chest, face, the hands and the neck. Adding one or two other treatments increases the chances of success.

Prior to the exposure to the laser beam, your eyes have to be adequately protected. You will need a face shield or a pair of glasses for this. For very sensitive areas, some anesthetic drug may be needed. The practitioner will the switch on the device and direct the beam to the desired area of the body. The strength of laser required is computer-determined. The average time needed for the entire exercise is 30 minutes to one hour.

The area of skin that has been treated tends to appear a bit frosty. Peeling off then sets in after a few days. Occlusive ointments are usually advised to help with keeping the skin moist as it undergoes healing. The period for which ointments will be used vary depending on the skin condition. Moisturizers are introduced later on but dressings and bandages are not necessary.

Positive results can be seen after a couple of days or weeks. One of the earliest changes that will be noted is normalization of skin pigmentation which is a desired effect for persons that are struggling with problems of pigmentation. The skin appearance becomes even better as healing continues to take place. Clients must appreciate that the results will vary from one individual to another depending on the problem that each of them has.

One session of therapy is often adequate for most patients. In a few of them, however, several therapies administered in a serial manner are needed. When there is a need to administer additional therapies, they are given at four to eight week intervals. Every individual should get a customized treatment plan as guided by the severity of their condition and type of skin.

There are very few risks associated with this procedure. As a matter of fact, it can be safely administered in a private office or an outpatient department of a hospital. The mild pain that is experienced when deeper treatments are administered can be numbed using topical anesthetic agents. In spite of this good safety profile, make a point of discussing possible risks with the practitioner before therapy is initiated.
