While explaining their condition, they should not forget to mention whether they have visited any tick infested areas. In addition, it is important for one to note that diagnosis of the disease in its early stages is not easy as the symptoms are similar to those of other conditions.

With Lyme disease, early detection is important as this is when treatment is easy. Here, the patient can be treated by the use of antibiotics without having to undergo the numerous laboratory procedures. Simple antibiotics such as Doxycycline can be used for treating adults.

There are different degrees of Lyme disease. At more complicated times; it may affect the nervous system. In this case, patients are easily treated with the administration of intravenous antibiotic. While they are efficient for the treatment process, the symptoms take some more time before they all disappear. One may experience side effects such as diarrhea and body aches.

For patients who are younger than nine years of age or in the case of pregnant ladies, amoxicillin or penicillin are used for treatment. The reason for this is that a drug such as Doxycycline can lead to permanent staining of teeth of developing children or unborn babies. Erythromycin is administered to the specific patients who are allergic to penicillin.

Once one has been treated, the symptoms do not all go away immediately. Most patients are left with several side-effects which may take time before they are all gone. These symptoms include general body fatigue and some aches in parts of the body. This does not however mean that one needs to be put under antibiotic therapy again, as their health will be restored back within a matter of months or weeks depending on the specific condition.

Due to the long processes and cost of treatment, it is better for one to prevent infection as prevention is better than cure. The most effective way to do this is through avoiding deer ticks at all costs. Since they are mostly found in wooden areas and grasslands, when walking through these areas, wearing appropriate clothing which covers the entire body is important.
