Keeping the fireplace clean is an essential activity for a hazard free home. Chimney cleaning should be done frequently and in the right way to avoid disasters in homes. This maintains the fire system, and it retains the efficiency of the fireplace while keeping the home a fire free zone. It also prolongs the life of a fireplace and here are things to consider in the process.

It is an activity that can be done by an individual or with the help of professionals. If it is the person doing it on their own, they should know their way around the maintenance process. The process should be done at least two times a year for a frequently used fireplace. This will ensure that the dust particles that accumulate over the long periods are removed.

A fire place being a hard place to access in the house requires a lot of precautions and special tools to clean. The tools will protect the person cleaning from harm and ensure the work is done completely. Some of the protective tools are the gloves, helmets, and masks. The tools to be used in the cleaning are wires or poly brush, a flexible rope or rod, covering cloths and collection bucket.

The methods mostly used to conduct the procedures are top to bottom which is done with a flexible rod or rope, bottom to top method done with a flexible rod, dual line method that is done with both a rope and a flexible rod and lastly the weight method that is done using ropes and weights. The radius of the fire area to be cleaned will determine the method used for the whole process.

In the process, the walls of the fire system are the first areas to get cleaned. This is where suit accumulates forming pieces of rocks and soil. They may also form debris, and they should be removed first. They are brushed off with the flexible rod and brush and collected at the bottom with a bucket or the piece of cloth available for the cleaning.

After the exhaust area is cleaned, the particles that fall to the fire area should be removed. They should be removed alongside the ash that has accumulated in the fireplace after the use of the area. This will allow for inspection of the area and determination of whether any repairs are to be done are noted. This will ensure the area is in good condition and can be used without any problem.

There are precautions to be taken before and during the process. These will protect the person who is washing and the furniture around the fire place. The person cleaning the area should put on a helmet and gloves for the process. A mask also should be put on to avoid the dust from entering the body. Dust may cause some allergic reactions to some people.

When a fire system is cleaned, it makes the fireplace comforting and enjoyable. With the above factors considered during the cleaning, the person doing the cleaning will be safe from harm. The home will also be safe from fires. It is time for people to start embracing the culture of cleaning their chimneys.
