Tallahassee Chiropractors Offers Neck Pain Relief Options

By Fernando Ketter

The cervical spine is the most delicate portion of the backbone. There are seven cervical vertebrae. The top one is called the Atlas. It is the largest in size and supports the weight of the head. A car accident, even at low speed, can cause an injury known as whiplash. A leading Tallahassee Chiropractor will confirm the seriousness of this condition.

The body is protected by a seat belt and an air bag. However the head is free to be jerked forward and back with rapid force. Needless to say, the pain can be excruciating with the individual unable to turn his head from one side to the other. The goal of chiropractic care is to restore function to the neck by reducing pain and increasing the range of motion.

Make an appointment with the chiropractor for a full evaluation of your condition. That includes the physical exam, taking a medical history and range-of-motion testing. The evaluation results will determine the optimal care plan to be used. Spinal adjustments are often included.

In addition to whiplash, the cervical spine can be hurt due to muscle strain and tension. It may be a combination of these factors. It may also be a condition called cervical osteoarthritis. This is a degenerative condition that may occur with age.

Vertigo is another condition possibly arising from head trauma in an accident. In some cases it causes nausea and vomiting. One type, cervicogenic vertigo is helped by spinal adjustments.

Another type of vertigo is caused by debris in the vestibulocochlear system within the inner ear. There is a chiropractic method used to reposition that debris to relieve the dizziness. It is called the Epley Maneuver.

Each care plan is custom tailored for each client. A different plan can be required for two individuals with the same injury. Their pain alleviation may be facilitated by the adjustments, massage or a mild exercise regimen that includes stretching.
